January 20 – February 25, 2012.

Come to the opening Friday January 20 6-9PM without going anywhere by calling (323) 843-4652.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

323 Projects is pleased to present Volume by Brookhart Jonquil.

For this exhibition Jonquil invites callers to 323 Projects to ponder the particularities of space and sound and our interpretations of what we cannot see first-hand. Visitors who call 323 Projects at (323) 843-4652 will hear Jonquil making improvised noises in a space of indeterminate size. They will then be asked to contribute their impressions on the size of the space the sounds were made in. Callers will respond to the audio prompt read by Jonquil:

Hi, thank you for calling, I'm standing in a room that is empty- except for my body at one end and a microphone at the other. Over the next couple of minutes I'm going to try to transmit to you the space that I'm in. Can this physical mass of air- bounded by solid walls, floor, and ceiling- be translated into acoustic information, then transformed into a stream of low frequency light, and beamed from a tower in California to your phone? Can you hear this room? If you can, after the beep, please describe it to me, tell me its volume.

323 Projects invites you to hear Volume by calling (323) 843-4652 or (323) TIE-IN-LA. The show is open all day and all night, every day of the week.
